Egypt

Egypt is synonymous with Pharaohs, the pyramids, temples and antiquities from ancient civilisations. And at the centre of these great civilisations lies the Nile River that has influenced their economics, social life, politics and religion. From desert landscapes and dry, rugged mountains that reach to the sea, dusty cities full of exotic sounds and smells, and green strips of agricultural land snaking along the banks of the Nile, Egypt has something to offer all travellers from all walks of life. Spectacular diving in the Red Sea; unique desert experiences, whether on the back of a camel to Mount Sinai or on a jeep safari to the inner oases; the colour and chaos of Cairo and its markets; and felucca cruises on the Nile River are just some of the exotic attractions awaiting visitors. Egypt promises an unforgettable experience of history and relaxation - a mixture of discovery and pleasure.

Independent Egypt resort reviews

Aswan Egypt's southernmost city and ancient frontier town which has the loveliest setting on the Nile. Situated near the Tropic of Cancer, Aswan is hot and dry nearly all the time, with average daily temperatures ranging from a delicious 23-30°C in the winter to a searing 38-54°C over summer. Late autumn and spring are perfect times to visit.

Cairo is the vibrant, over crowded, dusty and chaotic capital of Egypt. Worth a visit so you can say you've been there but unless you're used to city life and the noise then don't stay too long.

El Gouna Nestled at the edge of a desert of rich, red sand, the new resort of El Gouna is built on a series of islands encompassed by colourful lagoons. Soak up the sun on the sandy beaches, home to a variety of watersports as well as a number of diving centres.

Hurghada Backed by desert sands, the clear waters of the Red Sea are a favourite with sun-seekers and divers alike. It's ideal for those looking to spend the day on the beach with snorkelling and scuba-diving. The sea is full of tropical fish that dart in and out of the living coral reefs.

Luxor is located 675km south of Cairo on the east bank of the majestic River Nile. Not many resorts can boast a king’s ransom of ancient sights barely a stone’s throw away from their luxurious hotel pools, but Luxor is actually built on the 4,000 year old ruins of Thebes.

Sharm El Sheikh Basking on sun-drenched shores lapped by clear blue waters, Sharm El Sheikh is the principle resort on the Red Sea Riviera. Fast becoming the in-place to holiday, Sharm El Sheikh's coastline is bathed in year round sunshine, while beneath its tranquil seas lies a breathtaking sub-aquatic world of coral reefs alive with colourful, tropical fish.

Taba There aren't many resorts in the world where you can look out of your hotel window and see several other countries. Taba overlooks Jordan, Israel and Saudi Arabia, and is developing swiftly as a tourism center. It currently has good restaurants and beach cafes, and the border can be crossed on foot, with a bus service into Eilat.
