Costa Dorada |
| The hue of the fine sand on the wide, wonderful beaches of Spain’s Costa Dorada (Golden Coast) has given this popular holiday region its name. The 20 or so towns and villages along this 120-mile (200km) stretch of Mediterranean coastline, south of Barcelona, have become built up with hundreds of hotels, camp sites and apartment blocks, catering mainly for family holidays. Entertainment consists largely of enjoying the shallow, transparent, gentle sea, ideal for the ‘bucket and spade’ brigade, and the large, thrilling theme and waterparks at the local resorts. Visitors who enjoy soaking up some local culture and history find the Costa Dorada has plenty to show, particularly the main regional city of Tarragona. |

Cambrils Merging with the resort of Salou on the western side of Costa Dorada, lies the pretty Catalan town of Cambrils. A growing resort, Cambrils is made for families and sun lovers alike and offers miles upon miles of magnetic soft sands where you can lounge all day, practically undisturbed. When you're feeling energetic you'll find an array of watersports including windsurfing and pedaloes readily available from the water's edge and the town's bustling palm-lined promenade is flanked with tempting shops, bars and eateries. If you're lucky you'll be treated to a spectacular Flamenco dance and live music in one of the colourful restaurants. Another attraction might be the local summer fiestas which take place in July and August. Journey time from airport: 30-45 minutes approx. |

La Pineda Centred on a large man made beach which was developed with sun bathing and safe swimming in mind. The resort has a good select of bars and restaurants and the short 6kms journey to the Universal Studios Port Aventura makes it ideal for young families. |

Salou The biggest resort on the Costa Dorada, Salou is totally geared to a family seaside holiday - modern, well-designed and blessed with mile upon mile of golden sands. Apart from the vast, gently-shelving beach with an exciting range of watersports, there are pleasures aplenty. A tree-Lined ribbon of promenade fronted by shops, cafes and eateries, and a modern resort centre packed with even more, including lively night-time bars and discos. Make your way here as dusk falls and you can watch as the town's famous illuminated fountain springs to life, a signal that the evening revelries are about to begin. Journey time from airport: 20 minutes approx. |
