Corfu |
The island of Corfu, best known of the seven Ionian islands that lie off the north-west coast of Greece, differs markedly from the other popular Greek islands because not only is it green and lush, but also very developed with tourist resorts and hotels. Summer time is hectic on Corfu, with charter flights arriving daily from European cities, ferries disgorging travellers from Italy, and cruise ships docking. Those wishing to escape from the melee in the town can head for the interior to enjoy some spectacular scenery and greenery. Corfu has, for instance, 43 different kinds of orchids growing wild in the countryside, and there are countless olive groves. Finally there are, of course, the beautiful beaches washed by the sparkling Ionian Sea, and it is still possible to search out a secluded cove or two even in the busy season when the over-developed resorts on the east coast are awash with package tourists. |

Glyfada - is a coastal resort overlooking a vast sandy beach, making it very popular with holiday-makers from all over. The town lies to the West of Corfu Town and roughly 20km from the airport. During the day, the beach is the main attraction as watersports are available. At night there are few tavernas in resort, but most entertainments and eateries are on-site at the hotels. Do not miss a trip to the nearby village of Pelekas, or for golfers a quick round of golf at nearby Ermones. |

Gouvia - Situated just 5 miles from Corfu Town, Gouvia is a lively international resort. The main focus is the busy marina, with an excellent selection of restaurants, tavernas. music bars and cafe bars. Days can be spent exploring the island or relaxing on the shingle/pebbly beach. A lively international resort with quiet relaxing days spent on the beach with a transformation at night. Adjoining Gouvia is Kontokali, a quiet fishing village. About a 15 minute drive from the airport by car or taxi. |

Kanoni Beach - Previously a residential area, Kanoni has been developed due to its close proximity to Corfu Town. Less than 2km from the airport, it is subject to some noise from its elevated position. The resort overlooks Mouse Island and the Halikopoulos lagoon. The best beach is that of the Corfu Holiday Palace hotel. A resort popular with more mature guests, there is a lot to see in the local area including the Temple of Artemis and Paleopolis Church. Kanoni offers a few restaurants and bars in resort, but Corfu Town is only a short taxi or bus ride away. |

Kassiopi - Once a quiet fishing village, Kassiopi has developed into a lively, bustling resort that still manages to retain some of its original charm and friendly atmosphere. A number d pebbly coves can be reached by paths across the headland and a large shingle bay offers a choice of water sports. Clustered with cafes. bars, restaurants and tavernas, situated around the pretty fishing harbour are the ideal place to have dinner before sampling the lively nightlife on offer at a couple of Disco's . About a 1 hour, 15 minute drive from the airport by car or taxi. |

Kontokali - Kontokali is situated 6km to the North-West of Corfu airport. Although many of the buildings are obviously old, the village does not show any typical Greek character as most of the seafront is taken up by a large marina. There is nothing in particular for children or teenagers so the resort is mostly visited by couples. The best beaches are found at Gouvia, although Kontokali does have a shallow sand/shingle beach of its own. Small selection of local eateries. Daily bus services are available to Corfu Town and and the Northern resorts. |

Nissaki - Nissaki is a pretty village separated from its neighbours by the mountains and cliffs to which it clings. The small beaches and excellent choice for families and couples. A more relaxing type of holiday in very picturesque surroundings. About a 1 hour drive from the airport by car or taxi. |

| |
Paleocastritsa - This resort is famous for its breathtaking beauty and magnificent scenery. Paleocastritsa is the type of place where you will quickly make friends with the locals and be drawn back to its beauty and charm time and time again. Retaining a fairly laid back atmosphere this is the perfect retreat for families and any one wishing to escape the bustle of every day life, although the resort does get rather busy with 'day trips' wanting to capture the beautiful views that surround Paleocastritsa. There is a good nightlife but it's more laid back than other nightspots on the Island. About a 45 minute drive from the airport by car or taxi. |
|

|
|
| |
Perama - A relaxing resort, Perama is a picturesque area on the East coast of Corfu. Offering fantastic views across the bay to Mouse Island, Perama is also a good base for exploring. It has sandy coves with watersports available plus a few tavernas and restaurants. Nightlife is very low key however lively Benitses is only 2 miles away. |

Sidari - Swim the Canal D'Amor at Sidari and the legend promises you will find 'the love of your life'. And if that is not enough to tempt you to this part of the world, the superb sandy beach and a good range of watersports most certainly will. Sidari has no shortage of places to eat at very reasonable prices, along with shops and Supermarkets to cater for all your needs. There is also a good choice of bars. Sidari is still very much a typically Greek resort where families enjoy seeing the kids playing on the beach on the vast expanses of sand. An excellent resort. About a 1 hour drive from the airport by car or taxi. |
|

|
|
| |
St George - Set on the south west coast of Corfu. St George is a truly delightful resort boasting three miles of golden sandy beach. Quieter than many resorts St George offers a more 'Greek' experience. With many tavernas and little bars, together with one of the island's major windsurfing centres, St George is an ideal place to spend a quiet holiday. Ideal for Families and couples looking for a relaxing beach holiday in traditional surroundings. About a 30 minute drive from the airport by car or taxi. |
